Lady Spikers remain on track

MANILA, Philippines — Reigning champion La Salle kept a stranglehold of second spot with a 25-19, 25-21, 25-18 win over FEU in the second-round elims of the UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament yesterday at the Smart-Araneta Coliseum.

It was the fifth straight win for the Lady Spikers (7-1), whose lone loss came against unbeaten leader Santo Tomas in the first round, with reigning MVP Angel Canino (15) and Best Middle Blocker Thea Gagate (10) leading the barrage.

The Lady Tamaraws, a force to reckon with this season, dropped to an even 4-4 slate.

Earlier, University of the East exacted payback on Adamson, 26-24, 23-25, 25-18, 25-20, to snap a six-game slump.

Prized rookie Caisey Monique Dongallo rediscovered her fiery form with 28 points on 25 hits, two blocks and an ace as the Lady Warriors climbed to 2-6 to keep their Final Four hopes flickering with still six games to play.

UE tied Ateneo and Adamson from seventh to fifth spot just behind Far Eastern U.
