Lino Cayetano’s bid to transfer voter record denied

MANILA, Philippines —  The Commission on Elections (Comelec) has dismissed the application of former Taguig mayor Lino Cayetano to transfer his voter registration from the city’s congressional District 2 to 1.

In a 24-page resolution, the Comelec’s Election Registration Board (ERB) ruled that Cayetano and his wife failed to establish that they are residents of the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros.

Comelec Chairman George Garcia said Cayetano, who is seeking a congressional seat in the 1st District, still has legal options.

“There are remedies that he can take, hence it is improper to speculate at this point,” Garcia said.

In a Facebook post, Cayetano maintained that he is a bonafide resident of the 1st District of Taguig-Pateros, where he stayed since childhood.

Cayetano said he would not withdraw his candidacy for congressman in the 2025 midterm elections.

The ERB said the Cayetano couple failed to to submit proof of residency in the 1st District.

The poll body noted that Cayetano and his wife voted in Barangay Fort Bonifacio in the 2023 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections.
