Magnitude 5.3 offshore quake strikes Surigao del Sur
Metro Manila (CNN Philippines, January 3) — A magnitude 5.3 earthquake was recorded offshore of Hinatuan in Surigao del Sur Wednesday morning, according to state seismologists.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said it was an aftershock of the massive magnitude 7.4 tremor that hit the province last month.

Damage is not expected, it added.
Intensity 5, or strong shaking, was felt in Bislig City, Surigao del Sur.
