Magnolia's Bey confident of nailing another equalizer vs Beermen

MANILA, Philippines -- Despite being down 3-2 against San Miguel in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup, Magnolia import Tyler Bey is unfazed.

The Beermen are just a win away from grabbing their 29th overall PBA championship.

They will try to win it all on Wednesday evening’s Game 6 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

But for Magnolia's Bey there is “no pressure.”

“No pressure. We just have to come out and do what we did in the last two games before this game,” the do-it-all foreign reinforcement told reporters after their 108-98 defeat on Sunday.

Magnolia earlier trailed 0-2 in the series, but won back-to-back games to take it to Game 6.

And on Wednesday, they will try to force a winner-take-all Game 7.

“I feel good about this conference. I mean we came back from 0-2, we can do it again, we can win two more games. Why not? We’re a great team,” Bey said.

“I don’t feel like our backs are against the wall. Obviously, we’re down one and they got one more to go, but I believe in this team,” he added.

“I believe in the coaching staff and I believe in myself as well.”

Bey and the rest of the Hotshots will have to contain the hot-shooting Beermen, who will try to win their first championship since the 2022 Philippine Cup.

Magnolia, however, are likewise hungry for a title as their last championship came in the 2018 Governors’ Cup.

For their part, the Beermen will try to hoist up the trophy on Wednesday.

San Miguel head coach Jorge Gallent, after their win, said that they will make the most out of a two-day break and brace for what’s coming in Game 6.

“The two-day break will also help us. That’s very good for both Magnolia and us. We expect them to do the same, try to overwork us and we’re just gonna be prepared for what’s coming in Game 6,” he said.

Game 5 hero Jericho Cruz, who finished with a career-high-tying 30 points, underscored that the job is not yet finished.

“Job’s not finished yet, so, back to the drawing board. We’ll see what our coaches give us for plays and preparations. But yes, job’s not finished yet.”
