Manny Pacquiao makes another jab for Senate
MANILA, Philippines — Boxing icon Manny Pacquiao on Monday filed his certificate of candidacy for senator and vowed to fight all forms of corruption in government if he wins in next year's election.
Pacquiao will run under the Partido Federal ng Pilipinas, one of the parties allied with the administration's Alyansa ng Bagong Pilipinas.
«I believe that corruption is the cancer of our society. It is the reason the Filipino people are suffering. There is no job, our economy is down,» he said in a mix of Filipino and English.
He mentioned that during his term as senator, he had a government agency abolished because of corruption and redundancy.
Pacquiao, who served as senator from 2016 to 2022, said 98 percent of those in position want to enrich themselves.
«If they just put their promises into action, every Filipino now has a better life,» he added.
The former senator said that he wants to leave a legacy that the Filipino people will not forget.
