Nasipit repulses Bacoor in MPVA volleyball tiff opener

MANILA, Philippines – The Nasipit Lady Spikers thwarted the Bacoor City Strikers-Metro Land Builders Corp., 25-19, 25-21, 23-25 and 25-16, for a rousing debut in the inaugural season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Volleyball League Wednesday.

The City Strikers stood their ground against the Lady Spikers in the first two sets. But the younger Bacoor team eventually struggled toward the end of these sets, giving the seasoned veterans the upper hand as Nasipit Agusan raced to the two-set lead.

In the third canto, the Bacoor spikers fought valiantly, much to the delight of their home crowd, narrowly edging out the Lady Spikers. 

But the fourth set appeared to be a repeat of the first two as the Agusan del Norte-based squad secured the victory.

Shereen Urmeneta top-scored for Nasipit with 21 points, followed by Maricar Baloaloa (16) Sheeka Espinosa (13) and Noheli Cerdeña (10).

Bacoor, meanwhile, rode on the scoring of Shaila Omipon with 14 points, and Mary Rose Dapol (13) and Charisse Enrico with 13 and 11 markers, respectively.
