Panthers rule Southwrks Basketball League Season 2 | The Freeman

CEBU, Philippines — The Panthers emerged as champion of the Southwrks Basketball League (SBL) Season 2 co-presented by Mandaue’s Pride Basketball Association (MPBA).

Their crowning glory, however, wasn’t served on a silver platter as the Panthers had to pass through overtime before fending off the gritty Lions, 87-85, in their nerve-racking final match played on Monday, May 13, at the City Sports Club-Cebu gym.

Marjoniel Halang sparkled with 23 points, eight assists, and five rebounds for the Panthers to become the hands down choice as Finals Most Valuable Player.

Halang was joined in the elite Mythical Five by season MVP Mark Iway, Rey Diongzon,  Mark Kasayan, and Joshua Curvo.

Diongzon tallied 20 markers on top of seven boards and four dimes, while Jame Alpas also made his presence felt for the Panthers with 10 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

Iway led the Lions with 29 points laced with eight rebounds and three steals. Jacinto Goden netted 22 points, 10 rebounds, and three assists, while Jepher Laspobres finished with 12 points, eight assists, and four steals in a losing effort. — (FREEMAN)
