Press Release - Alan and Pia help 500 fisherfolk, solo parents in CDO

"May pambayad na ako ng kuryente!"

Alexa Mae Sagun was excited as she and 500 other residents of Cagayan de Oro City received livelihood assistance and support for their daily needs from Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano on Saturday, April 20, 2024.

"Nag-aalaga po ako full-time ng four years old kong baby. Y'ung asawa ko, tuwing weekend lang umuuwi mula sa bukid. Ako naman minsan may eyelash extension na sideline, pero hindi malaki ang income dahil wala masyadong client," Sagun said during the AICS distribution held at Nazareth Gym in Barangay Nazareth.

Those who joined her in receiving assistance come from the sectors of fisherfolk, solo parents, tailors and seamstress, and owners of micro-, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The activity was done in partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) through their Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) Program.

"Masaya po ako kasi maraming kaming natulungan nila Senator Alan Peter at Pia Cayetano. Ang laki na po itong tulong sa amin. Nagpapasalamat po ako dahil may pambayad na kami ng electric bills. Thank you po and God bless!" Sagun said.

For his part, working student Junril Lerongan said he will use the assistance to pay his graduation fees.

"Para sa akin na estudyante, napakalaking tulong nito po para idagdag sa graduation fee ko. Maraming salamat po na may AICS at isa ako sa natulungan ng programa," Lerongan said.

Joyce Rose Lazarte, a seamstress, thanked the senators and CDO leaders for including her as one of the AICS beneficiaries.

"Maraming salamat po sa tulong n'yo po na nasali ako sa programang ito. Malaking tulong po ito sa iba pang kasama ko. Maraming salamat po!" Lazarte said.

The successful AICS distribution in CDO was done in coordination and with the support of CDO City 2nd District Representative Rufus Rodriguez and CDO City Vice Mayor Jocelyn "Bebot" Rodriguez.

Due to the great need to reach out to our kababayan nationwide, the offices of Senators Alan Peter and Pia Cayetano continue to go around the provinces to touch base with the communities, to help meet their daily needs, and to provide other forms of assistance.
