Trough of LPA affecting Northern, Central Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of a low pressure area (LPA) outside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) is affecting the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.

Weather specialist Robert Badrina said the trough is particularly affecting Isabela, Aurora, Quezon, Camarines Norte and Camarines Sur where cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms may prevail.

The rest of the country will continue to have hot weather especially at noontime until mid-afternoon despite Pagasa's declaration of the onset of the rainy season.

«The effect of the southwest monsoon or 'habagat' is still not that strong although we have a prediction that this would bring rains maybe during or after the weekend,» the Pagasa forecaster said.

Habagat is the warm moist wind from the southwest that causes rains especially over the western portion of the country particularly from May to September.

Meanwhile, the localized thunderstorms will bring partly cloudy to overcast skies with isolated downpours or thunderstorms in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, the weather bureau said.
