UP-Diliman to heighten security after stabbing incident

THE University of the Philippines-Diliman yesterday said it will deploy more security personnel and urged the public to be more vigilant after a stabbing incident on campus last Monday night.

The UP Diliman Police said it received a report about a stabbing incident at around 8 p.m. Monday near the UPD National Science Complex.

It said the victim was immediately brought to a hospital for treatment.

The UPD Police did not provide additional details, saying the Quezon City Police Department has taken over the case.

“Everyone is reminded to stay vigilant and report anything suspicious to the authorities,” UP Diliman said in its advisory, adding that more security personnel would patrol different areas of the campus as part of the enhanced security measures.

It said that for emergencies or requests for assistance, the public may call the UPD Public Safety and Security Office at 0917-597-1984 or the UPD Police at 8981-8500 local 113.

Last year, Commission on Higher Education Chairperson Prospero De Vera called on universities and colleges in the country to review and update their security plans after a student was sexually assaulted at the UP campus in Diliman.
