Championship or bust for redemption-seeking Lady Bulldogs in UAAP Season 86

MANILA, Philippines -- The National University Lady Bulldogs are seeking  redemption in the upcoming UAAP Season 86 women’s volleyball tournament.

After failing to defend the title in Season 85, the Lady Bulldogs have nothing but the championship in their sights.

“Championship [is the goal]. All of us, since the end of Season 85, that is the goal,” Lady Bulldog Vange Alinsug told reporters.

“We will not stop until we get that in Season 86,” she added.

Last season, NU ran into a brick wall that is the La Salle as it failed to defend the championship.

The Lady Spikers swept the Lady Bulldogs in the finals last season.

“Our preparation after last season, we regrouped. We corrected our lapses and what we lacked as a team. We’re making sure this season that our goal will not change,” she stressed.

The sophomore Alinsug is one of the key holdovers this season for NU, along with former Rookie-MVP Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon.

The team, however, lost Jen Nierva and captain Cess Robles in the offseason.

With the departure of some of the main guns of the team, Alinsug said she is embracing a more vocal role in the team.

“My role this season, it’s the same. We just have to be more vocal as a team, so we could help each other inside the court,” she said.

NU's redemption tour  will start on Sunday, February 18, when it faces UST at 4 p.m. at the Mall of Asia Arena.

“The pressure this season is not the same as last season. Now, we know what we want -- redemption. We want to really bounce back,” said Alinsug.
