Quezon City crime rate down 25 percent

MANILA, Philippines — The number of crimes in Quezon City dropped by 25 percent, police reported yesterday.

The eight focus crimes – murder, homicide, physical injury, rape, theft, robbery, carjacking and motorcycle theft – decreased over the past three weeks, according to the Quezon City Police District (QCPD).

The crime volume went down from 62 cases recorded from Sept. 11 to 17, to 43 incidents from Sept. 18 to 24.

From 43 crimes recorded in the previous week, the QCPD reported at least 40 cases from Sept. 25 to Oct. 1, or a decrease of 6.98 percent.

Police logged only 30 crimes from Oct. 2 to 8, for a decrease of 25 percent.

The QCPD attributed the significant drop in crime volume to the efforts of the Task Force District Anti-Criminality Response Team, which conducted patrols on the streets.

The 12-hour duty scheme for QCPD personnel also helped increase police visibility in the city, officials said.
