UCAL cagefest: CEU, PCU-D eye semis berths
MANILA, Philippines – Reigning titlist Centro Escolar University and Philippine Christian University-Dasmarinas try to clinch the first two semis berths when they go up against their respective quarterfinals opponents in the Universities and Colleges Athletic League-PG Flex Linoleum Season 6 on Thursday, March 7, at the Paco Arena in Manila.
Bidding for their first back-to-back titles and third overall since the birth of the league in 2016, the Scorpions are the overwhelming favorites in their 12 noon encounter with No. 8 Guang Ming College (Tagaytay City).
The PCU Dolphins, on the other hand, collide with two-time champions Diliman College Blue Dragons at 2 p.m.
On Saturday, third-seeded Olivarez College takes on newcomer Manila Central College at 2 p.m. right after what is expected to be another explosive showdown between Batangas’ respected colleges — No. 4 University of Batangas and fifth-seeded Lyceum of the Philippines University at 12 p.m.
For finishing 1-2 in the two-phase elims, CEU and PCU-D enjoy twice-to-beat privileges against their respective rivals – both of them determined to force a sudden death.
The other quarterfinal matches will be a knockout affair.
