DBM releases P3B additional AICS budget

The Department of Budget and Management (DBM) has approved the release of an additional P3 billion for the Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situation (AICS) program.

«We will continue to strengthen social protection measures for our kababayans, especially the marginalized and vulnerable sectors,» Budget Secretary Amenah Pangandaman said in a statement on Monday.

AICS is one of the Department of Social Welfare and Development's programs that offers medical help, burial, transportation, education, food, or financial assistance.

The release of additional cash is based on a unique clause in the 2023 General Appropriations Act on the use of unprogrammed appropriations.

Based on the special provision, a significant amount would be utilized to fund infrastructure projects and social initiatives, including financial help to poor individuals or families.

The budget can be made available when there are new or surplus revenue receipts.
